Globe cruiser surf van and me started our path in 2007, when we bought this van with my father. His co-worker, the previous owner already did some work on it to make it a camper, but the job was poorly done and the van was able to stay in camping sites only. Anyway the outside of the van and the engine were in solid condition. We took some small trips in the camp sites, nothing like nomad style traveling with this version 1.0 version of the van. And it took a year of being an exchange student in Latvia to increase my lust for traveling to strat turning this 1990 Mercedes Benz MB100 in to the surf van that it is today. The final four Round 2 heats of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal were completed this afternoon in challenging two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Supertubos.
Event No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal not only plays an important role in the hunt for the 2012 ASP World Title, but also the requalification campaigns of the world’s best surfers.
“We’ve been down since 6:30am assessing the conditions,” Simpson said. “Wilko (Matt Wilkinson) and I have been having fun all day as he was here too – we’re friends out of the water, but we were just trying to catch the best waves we can. I had a really good opportunity solidify my lead out there more, but was unable to.”
While the heat didn’t offer tremendous scoring opportunity, Simpson was relieved to put up some modest score on the board in hopes of building momentum throughout the latter rounds.

The Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2012 commenced today with Round 1 and the opening eight heats of Round 2 completed in improving three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves at the primary venue of Supertubos.
Event No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal plays a vital role in the hunt for the 2012 ASP World Title and today saw no shortage of fireworks from this season’s top contenders.

Today was a lay day on the Rip Curl Pro Portugal, cause of the bad wave conditions. The swell was acctually not so bad, but the strong onshore winds made the strong short break wave to a strong close-out wave. Still some locals were surfing the waves at the Supertubos.

Yesterday, I went to check the Supertubos surf spot, where everything is ready for the ASF competition Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2012 to begin.
First I was “living the search” to find the Media Accreditation for the event and pick up my media pass. The nice girls in the the accreditation centrer took care for a nice welcome in a Portuguese hospitality way. Thanks to Rip Curl for a really nice T-shirt and for this special opportunity to be a part of this event.
After the duck dive session on Thursday, there was a change on the horizon. Kaja was leaving home, as her month long surf trip has ended. We said good-bye on the beach, surfers style like. I only know this girl for a week or so, but really was pleasantly relaxing spending time with her, meeting in Peniche. And as she left the kind of feeling of meeting again soon some random place again when she left. Cool stuff 😉
