In the rainy conditions here in Supertubos today on the day 9 of 11 at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2012, the conditions are not perfect for surfing. Still the organizers decided to continue with the competition and we saw the start of the round three with the third heat of the round. We saw some good waves in the heats with scores over 10 in every heat, up until the Heat 7, with Kelly Slater and Raoni Monteiro.

On Friday, after 2 days without being in the Ocean, my heart was beating in the surf-surf-SURF rythem strongly again. And the pain in the shoulder muscles has vanished completely. So my mind, my body, my soul and my muscles were ready to surf again.
The waves were far away from perfect on all the spots around Peniche on that day, but the will to surf was just too strong to resist. Even the fact that my two broken short boards were not fixed yet didn’t stop me to enter the water.

The final four Round 2 heats of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal were completed this afternoon in challenging two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Supertubos.
Event No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal not only plays an important role in the hunt for the 2012 ASP World Title, but also the requalification campaigns of the world’s best surfers.
“We’ve been down since 6:30am assessing the conditions,” Simpson said. “Wilko (Matt Wilkinson) and I have been having fun all day as he was here too – we’re friends out of the water, but we were just trying to catch the best waves we can. I had a really good opportunity solidify my lead out there more, but was unable to.”
While the heat didn’t offer tremendous scoring opportunity, Simpson was relieved to put up some modest score on the board in hopes of building momentum throughout the latter rounds.

On the the round one, we were blessed to see a lot of good wave rides.
A wave worth remembering is the Matt Wilkinson insane rodeo flip and the Gabriel Medina’s perfect 10 score on his wave. That was the first 10 of the competition and we hope to see more waves like this one on the later stages of he contest.
