Globe cruiser surf van and me started our path in 2007, when we bought this van with my father. His co-worker, the previous owner already did some work on it to make it a camper, but the job was poorly done and the van was able to stay in camping sites only. Anyway the outside of the van and the engine were in solid condition. We took some small trips in the camp sites, nothing like nomad style traveling with this version 1.0 version of the van. And it took a year of being an exchange student in Latvia to increase my lust for traveling to strat turning this 1990 Mercedes Benz MB100 in to the surf van that it is today. The Globe cruiser van was finished officially on one Saturday in the beginning of September 2009. And already the next day on Sunday, after some final finishing touches, me, my sister Ana and a friend Tina, were already on the road to the Globe Cruiser first Adventure of Czech Republic and Poland.
Our first destination was Mikulow area in the south-east part of the Czech Republic. Our first challange was just around the corner on our way to Austria, the country we had to drive trough to get to the Czech lands.
We decided to drive over a mountain pass Ljubelj instead of taking the tunnel trough the Karavanke mountains. That was quite a challanging idea, as on our way up, we had to stop about 5 times, to cool down the engine. With a 20 years old cooling system it takes some time:) And on the way down, the new breaking pads I’ve instaled during the renovation got so heated up, that the breaks stopped working.
Was quite amazing news on the first 50 km of the 4500 km long journey. But as the breaks cooled down and we came to flat-lands and on the highway, we on the roll again. And everything went smoothly from than on.
We’ve had a fun drive trough Austria, talking about all the plans and places we want to see with a wonderful scenic sights of the places we were passing by.
We’ve arrived to our destination of Milkulov at the time of the sunset. It was an amazing drive and adventure to build this van and take it to it’s first travel destination. And the welcoming picture of the camp, was just a lovely reward. The next day will be just resting and enjoying.
And the breathtaking glowing sign in the sky, kind of set the bless light for the whole adventure to come . . .
After the fun time we had drawing on the beach, we have decided to move our snail house (camper van) to my favorite cliff spot in the Peniche area, Batel.
We stopped in the super market Continete on the way, to buy everything we needed for a nice fish picnic diner evening.
I really love this kind of dinner. Surrounded by nature and the creativity of cooking with the cooperation of the natural element, for crating a great meal.
And this kind of food is just the most tasty of them all. I do this kind of dinner in the summer at home too. Just drive to one place with a friend or two after work, make a fire, bake some sausages, swim in the river . . . it’s just the best!
The Fishes and the Brazilian backed brad were soon ready to become a pure sensation of pleasure in the mouth. And we truly enjoyed it with, for me, the best Portuguese beer Sagres. Some people preffer Super Bock, but Ssagres is just more drinkable and therefore more enjoyable.
Adding to the sensations of tasty food, there was a spectacular sight of the sun sinking into the ocean. There were the sound of the ocean waves smashing in to the rocky cliffs below and the pleasant, easy reggae music playing . . . was just a soul-satisying monment.
Defenately The place to be . . .
I saw this advertisement for Corona beer on my way to the airport to fly to my home country Slovenia. On my last day of a 2 months long journey, where I have discovered that London, Portugal, The World is . . . my place to be.
Realy special moment for the last day of the journey on that station in London.
Mostly because of the song “From Places Where You’d Rather Be” that is associated to this advertisement. This song always reminds me of moments like this, on that day . . . miles away
And this video . . . speechless
Thank you Živa and Nina,
for the great soul moments of that day.
The best song for that day:
“keep your head up, keep your hearth sttong,
keep your mind set in your ways (waves) …
keep your hearth strong…”
As yesterday continued after posting the blog, I started talkning with Stephan, who I met yesterday. This guy is living a surfing-van life for the past 8 years. Amazing! And for a second a thought of my futurebeing in the same way pass trough my mind. We both agreed, that in this time, this is the closest you can get to complete freedom and conection with nature. As we were talking, I look at the ocean, just with the conrner of my eye, I see some big waves breaking on the beach. Not the best conditions, as there was a strong 40km/h crossshore winds and the waves had a lot of closeouts, but it is surfable.

The Berlengas Forte Da São João Baptista
After finishing writng my yesterdays posts in the Danau Baleal Beach bar, I started talking to one guy, who was sitting by the table next to me and also working on the computer. We “met” earlier, as we were looking after each-others computers, when the need for toilet came along. 😉
