Last Friday we were off to explore the surfers city of Nazare about 30 kimoleters north from Peniche,
Was a perfect day to do this. It was the last day of the surfing adventure for a member of the Surf School Tribu team. Črt the photographer, was leaving home after the whole month of the surfing adventure paid by labour 😉
And the weather and waves of Portugal were not so nice in the days of last week, with some rare exceptions . . . so a kind of an afternoon surf trip was just in place and I really wanted to see the place where Garret McNammara rode on a 90 foot wave.
This wave . . . stokes me every time I see it on the video and if I even start to imagine, being on it, the feeling of pleasant hyperness over-flows the whole of my feeling body. I really wish to see such a wave breaking in person on day.
First we checked out the down part of Nazare, the new part of the city. It was a kind of empty tourist city vibe. It was a cold, rainy day, the ocean was flat and it is after season. In a kind of clumsy, funny situation I’ve met an owner of the Ice Cream shop, who is spending the summers, selling ice cream here and was just closing the shop and move back to France till next summer.
We went to have launch and coffee next to the beach. But the service was terrible and the whole place turned out kind of unattractive and everything, except the canned Coca-cola tasted a bit strange. Like, look at what kind of coffee with milk I’ve got served- Ok, I do this kind of coffee for myself sometimes at home. It was just unexpected that you can get it served in a not so cheap restaurant . . . And also the one I make at home is much tastier.
After we drove to Praia Norte, the place where the massive 90 foot wave broke. Was nice to stay there and see the place where it happened. But the weather conditions were quite harsh. So we soon drove to check out the old upper city and the lighthouse of Nazare. It’s a pleasant city with an amazing cliff side view to the sandy beach and the new city below us.
We’ve had a relaxing time exploring the Nazare city and each-other. It’s always nice to discover the depths of the world around you and the worlds within you . . . It’s amazing with some people, kind of feels like the deeper you go, the deeper you want to dig in to it.
Kaja, Ana, Domen and Črt were a great fun company to spend the rainy flat day in the Portugal and the sunset of that day was just a reflection of the deep soul satisfaction . . . satisfy my soul.
